Summer Neck Scarf
Summer Neck Scarf
Set Up Row: Cast on 3 stitches. Knit all stitches.
Row 1: K, YO, K, YO, K (5 stitches)
Row 2: K2, P, K2
Row 3: K2, YO, K, YO, K2 (7 stitches)
Row 4: K2, P3, K2
Row 5: K2, YO, K, YO, PM , K, PM, YO, K, YO, K2 (11 Stitches)
Row 6: K2, P7, K2, slipping markers as you go.
All Right Side Rows:
K2, YO, K to marker. YO, slip marker, K, slip marker YO, K to last two stitches, YO, K2. (4 stitches increased on every RS row).
Note: if you get confused about the marker placement, just remember that there should be a marker on either side of running center stitch.
All Wrong Side Rows:
K2, Purl to last two stitches, K2, slipping markers as you go.
Repeat these two rows 45 times, ending with a WS row. (191 stitches)
Border rows:
RS: K2, YO, *K2tog, YO*, repeat until last three stitches. K1, YO, K2.
WS: K2, Purl to last 2 stitches, K2.
Repeat these two rows twice more. (Or to desired length of border). After the first set, you can end the next RS row with a K2tog, YO, K2. Work WS row. Third RS row will end with K1, YO, K2.
Bind off using an elastic bind-off such as this one (my preferred method). Weave in ends. Block gently.
Optional: I added a small button to the right corner on the RS of the fabric. This lets me fasten the scarf through one of the border eyelet holes instead of tying it. This prevents pilling and unneeded stress on the fiber.
This is a basic neckline-down construction with a 4-stitch increase on every other row. You’ll increase once right after the first border stitches, once on either side of the center stitch, and again right before the last two border stitches. The bottom row is a simple eyelet band but you can make that as fancy or plain as you want.
Needles: US 5 (straight or circular)
Yarn: Knit Picks Imagination (Shown in Frog Prince). Scarf uses all of 1 skein.
Gauge: 24 sts = 4-inches (10cm) in pattern. Gauge is not crucial,
Optional: 1 small (3/8”-1/2”) button and coordinating thread.
Note: I worked this on 24” circular needles because I am a dropsy-daisy when it comes to straights.
I’ve noticed that Imagination does tend to bleed a little, even after washing. You might want to skip the white t-shirt or wedding dress the first few times you wear this.
