Kaybot Socks
Kaybot Socks
This pair of gentleman’s socks was designed for my dear friend who is called Kaybot, though that is not his real name. Kaybot lives where it’s cold at least half the year so Sea Soft Wool was the perfect fiber for a breathable, warm and durable sock. That techniques are standard for cuff-down socks, with the exception of a tubular cast-on that creates a nice elastic cuff.
Gauge: 28 stitches and 40 rows = 4 inches in stockinette stitch
Yarn: Reynolds Soft Sea Wool- approximately 25 grams for Color A and 50 grams for Color B
This pattern is for socks to fit a men’s size 11 shoe. If you need to make them larger, you may need a second skein of Color B.
Waste yarn for tubular cast-on in contrasting color.
Needles: Set of 4 US Size 2.5 DPNs
CUFF:
Using the tubular cast-on method, cast on for 60 stitches in Color A. The Knitting Daily demo by Eunny Jang is the best I’ve seen demonstrating the technique.
I prefer to cast-on in the round, purling the pick-ups instead of knitting them, but you could also cast-on flat and seam the gap later.

Decrease Gusset:
Continuing with Color A, pick up 10 gusset, knit across the held 33 stitches in the K4, P2 patter. At the beginning of the next gusset, pick up and knit 10 more stitches. Knit straight across heel flap and across the first set of gusset stitches. PM after last stitch to indicate start of all new rounds. (80 stitches on needles).
Work the decrease rounds as follows:
Switch to Color B and arrange stitches as indicated below:
Needle 1: Work across all stitches in Patter.
Needle 2: K1, SSK, knit all stitches on needle.
